What is an E-Fatbike
E-Fatbikes makes this anybody’s adventure as you can go further and explore more! E-Bikes are bicycles integrated with a motor and a battery that assists the cyclist and allows them to cycle further with less effort.
Most of the tour is on Jeep Tracks and a little technical towards the end of the climb where it has a few steep bursts with loose gravel. These sections can be walked but if you have a bit of mountain bike experience then it is an easy cycle with the e-bike assistance. You have to come down this same section so some mountain bike experience is necessary to navigate down with effective brake control.
Tour departs from Lanzerac Hotel & Spa at the Vinebike E-bike Center. At the Trail Centre you will collect your E-Fatbike and and safety equipment.
You will make your way to the Jonkershoek Reserve on a 5 km scenic bicycle track. Once you entered the reserve you will start your ascent into the mountain assisted by the Electric Bike. You will enjoy majestic alpine like views. You will also cycle through forest pockets on your way to the view point.
At the furthest and highest point of the cycle you can add the extra 500 m hike to reach the summit of Saaltjie. (This last 500m cannot be cycled and bikes are left at a bench at the start of the hike)
Reaching Saaltjie is one of the highlights of the tour. Time will stand still as you enjoy breath taking views. Don’t forget to pack some snacks!
After the summit hike you make your way back to the bikes and start your descent backtracking and then follow the app guidance back via a contour route.
